Documents Required — US B-1/B-2 Visa Interview

Applying from India (Indian Nationals)

The following documents must be carried in original to your scheduled visa interview at the US Embassy or Consulate. Photocopies of all originals must also be prepared and submitted alongside. The consular officer reserves the right to request additional documents at their sole discretion.

1. Valid Passport

• Must be valid for a minimum of six months beyond your intended period of stay in the United States.
• Must contain at least two consecutive blank pages.
• All previous passports must be carried to the interview.

2. DS-160 Confirmation Page

Printed confirmation page bearing the barcode and confirmation number — mandatory, interview cannot proceed without it.

3. Interview Appointment Confirmation

Printed confirmation letter showing scheduled date, time, and address of the US Embassy or Consulate.

4. Visa Application Fee Payment Receipt

Original proof of payment of USD 185 MRV fee — non-refundable.

5. Identity Documents

• Aadhaar Card — front and back copy — mandatory.
• PAN Card — copy — mandatory.
• Voter ID Card — copy — if available as additional identity proof.

6. Passport Photographs

• Two recent colour photographs — white background, front-facing, neutral expression, no eyeglasses, taken within the last six months.
• Size: 2 x 2 inches (5 x 5 cm).

7. Proof of Occupation & Employment Status

• Employees: Original NOC on official company letterhead, signed and stamped, stating full name, designation, date of joining, monthly salary, and approved leave period. Valid employment contract must accompany the NOC. Salary slips for last three to six months strongly recommended.
• Business Owners & Partners: Original valid trade licence or business registration copy with self-introduction letter on company letterhead, signed and stamped, or partner NOC where applicable.
• Self-Employed Professionals: Original business registration or trade licence and signed self-declaration letter on official letterhead.

8. Financial Proof

• Personal bank statements for the last six months — stamped and signed by the bank.
• Online statements without official bank stamp not accepted.
• Consistent healthy balance maintained throughout — assessed holistically alongside income pattern and overall financial profile.
• Salary slips for last three to six months as additional financial evidence.
• Income Tax Returns (ITR) for the last three years — mandatory for all Indian applicants.
• If sponsored by a family member: Bank statements of both applicant and sponsor — along with sponsor's relationship proof and passport copy.

9. Ties to Home Country

• Property ownership documents — title deed or property registration certificate.
• Employment contract or appointment letter from current employer.
• Business ownership documents — trade licence or company registration.
• Family relationship documents — spouse, children, dependants.
• Any other evidence demonstrating compelling reasons to return to India after visit.

10. Purpose of Visit — Supporting Documents

• Tourism: General travel itinerary recommended. Hotel and flight bookings not mandatory — if carried, reservations only, not non-refundable tickets.
• Business: Official invitation letter from US company on letterhead stating purpose, duration, inviting person's details, and confirmation of expenses. Company's business registration must accompany.
• Family Visit: Invitation letter from US host with copy of their valid US passport or Green Card, proof of US address, and statement of relationship.

11. Civil Documents — For Family Applications

• Spouse: Original Marriage Certificate attested by home country authority and apostilled where applicable, with certified English translation. Spouse's passport copy.
• Children / Minors: Original Birth Certificate attested by home country authority with certified English translation. Both parents' passport copies mandatory.
• Single Parent with Minor: Notarised consent letter from absent parent mandatory — with absent parent's passport copy.

12. Previous Visa History

• Copies of all previously issued US visas including those in expired passports.
• Copies of major visas — Schengen, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan — as evidence of travel history.
• All previous passports with visa stamps must be carried to the interview.

13. Proof of India Residency

One of the following: Aadhaar Card / Voter ID Card / Utility Bill in applicant's name / Property ownership document.

Documents Required to Attend a US B-1/B-2 Visa Interview

(Applicable for UAE Residents)

The following documents must be carried in original to your scheduled visa interview at the US Embassy or Consulate. Photocopies of all originals must also be prepared and submitted alongside. The consular officer reserves the right to request additional documents at their sole discretion.

1. Valid Passport

• Must be valid for a minimum of six months beyond your intended period of stay in the United States.
• Must contain at least two consecutive blank pages available for visa issuance.
• All previous passports must be carried to the interview — consular officers review your complete travel history across all passports.

2. DS-160 Confirmation Page

• The printed confirmation page of your completed and submitted DS-160 Non-Immigrant Visa Application Form, bearing the barcode and confirmation number.
• This is a mandatory document — the interview cannot proceed without it.

3. Interview Appointment Confirmation

• The printed interview appointment confirmation letter, clearly showing your scheduled date, time, and the address of the US Embassy or Consulate at which your interview is booked.

4. Visa Application Fee Payment Receipt

• Original proof of payment of the USD 185 MRV (Machine Readable Visa) application fee.
• This fee is non-refundable and must have been paid prior to the interview.

5. UAE Residence Visa & Emirates ID

• Valid UAE Residence Permit — copy of visa page in passport.
• Emirates ID — front and back copy.
• Both must be valid at the time of the interview.

6. Passport Photographs

• Two recent colour passport photographs meeting US visa photograph requirements — white background, front-facing, neutral expression, no eyeglasses, taken within the last six months.
• Photographs must be 2 x 2 inches (5 x 5 cm) in size.

7. Proof of Occupation & Employment Status

• Employees: Original NOC (No Objection Certificate) on official company letterhead, signed and stamped by the authorised signatory, clearly stating the applicant's full name, designation, date of joining, monthly salary, and approved leave period. A valid labour contract must accompany the NOC. Salary slips for the last three to six months are strongly recommended as additional supporting evidence.
• Business Owners & Partners: Original valid trade licence copy, along with a self-introduction letter on the company's official letterhead signed and stamped by the applicant, or a partner NOC where applicable.
• Self-Employed Professionals: Original trade licence and a signed self-declaration letter on official letterhead.

8. Financial Proof

• Personal bank account statements for the last six months, stamped and signed by the bank.
• Online or internet-generated statements without an official bank stamp will not be accepted.
• A consistent and healthy bank balance must be maintained throughout the statement period. As a benchmark widely observed for UAE residents applying for a US B-1/B-2 visa, a minimum monthly closing balance of AED 12,000 to AED 15,000 per applicant is strongly recommended. However, no fixed minimum is officially published — the balance is assessed holistically alongside income pattern, financial stability, and overall applicant profile.
• Salary slips for the last three to six months as additional supporting proof of financial stability.
• If the trip is sponsored by a family member: Bank statements of both the applicant and the sponsor must be submitted. It is strongly advisable to attach both sets of statements — along with the sponsor's relationship proof, passport copy, and UAE Residence Visa copy.

9. Ties to Home Country

This is one of the most critical aspects of a US visa application. Visa applicants must qualify based on their ties abroad and to their home country. A consular officer will interview you to determine whether you are qualified to receive a visitor visa — you must establish that you meet the requirements under US law to receive a visa. Documents demonstrating strong ties to your home country strengthen your application significantly and include:

• Property ownership documents — title deed or property registration certificate
• Employment contract or appointment letter from your current employer
• Business ownership documents — trade licence or company registration
• Family relationship documents — spouse, children, dependants
• Any other evidence that demonstrates compelling reasons to return to your home country after your visit

10. Purpose of Visit — Supporting Documents

• Tourism: A general travel itinerary covering the cities and attractions to be visited is recommended. Hotel and flight bookings are not mandatory for the interview — however, if carried, they should be reservations only and not non-refundable confirmed tickets.
• Business: An official invitation letter from the US-based company or organisation on their letterhead, clearly stating the purpose and duration of the visit, the name and designation of the inviting person, and confirmation that all travel and accommodation expenses will be covered. The inviting company's business registration or equivalent document should accompany the letter.
• Family Visit: An invitation letter from the host in the United States, accompanied by a copy of the host's valid US passport or Green Card, proof of their US address, and a clear statement of the relationship with the applicant.

11. Civil Documents — For Family Applications

• Spouse: Original Marriage Certificate attested by the home country authority and UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (UAE MoFA), with a certified English translation where applicable. Spouse's passport copy.
• Children / Minors: Original Birth Certificate attested by the home country authority and UAE MoFA, with a certified English translation. It is strongly advisable for minors to attend the visa interview in person — the consular officer may direct questions to the child as part of the assessment process. Both parents' passport copies must be submitted.
• Single Parent Travelling with Minor: A notarised letter of consent from the absent parent is mandatory, along with the absent parent's passport copy.

12. Previous Visa History

• Copies of all previously issued US visas, if any, including those in expired passports.
• Copies of other major visas previously issued — Schengen, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan — as evidence of travel history and consular trust.
• All previous passports containing visa stamps must be carried to the interview.

13. Proof of UAE Residency

• One of the following as evidence of residence in the UAE: Tenancy Contract / Ejari / Title Deed / Utility Bill in the applicant's name.

Important Notes

• The above list represents the standard documents required for a US B-1/B-2 visa interview conducted from the UAE. The consular officer reserves the right to request additional documents at their sole discretion at any stage of the process.
• Carrying all documents — originals and photocopies — in a well-organised manner reflects positively on the applicant's preparedness and attention to detail.
• The US Department of State officially advises: "There is no guarantee you will be issued a visa. Do not make final travel plans or buy tickets until you have a visa." Flight and hotel reservations are acceptable as supporting documents where required.
• Misrepresentation or provision of fraudulent documents is a serious offence and can result in permanent visa refusal and a ban from future US visa applications.
• All visa decisions rest solely with the US consular officer. Submission of complete documentation does not guarantee visa approval.

Processing Time for Visa Issuance

If approved, a US B-1/B-2 visa is typically issued within 2 to 3 weeks from the date of interview. Processing time varies case to case and is determined solely by the issuing embassy or consulate. This does not include additional time required for administrative processing, where applicable, or the return of the passport by courier or mail.

6. Exit & Re-Entry Permit

Applicable to KSA Residents (Expats) only.

A valid Exit & Re-Entry Permit issued by the Saudi Government is mandatory for all expatriates residing in Saudi Arabia who wish to travel outside the Kingdom. Must be obtained prior to departure through the Absher platform or Ministry of Interior.

Not applicable to Saudi nationals holding a Saudi passport.
